Chavara Public School, Pala celebrated the harvest festival of Kerala with great festive spirit and grandeur as ‘Ponchinthathera’ – Onam Celebration 2026-27. The celebrations included both Kutti Onam for the students of Classes 1 to 5 and the grand Onam programme for the entire school community.
The spirit of Onam came alive on our campus as our little ones celebrated Kutti Onam. It was a day filled with colour, laughter and the true festive spirit of Kerala. Our young students arrived dressed in beautiful traditional Onam attire, making the campus vibrant. A variety of fun-filled competitions and activities were organized for them, in which they participated enthusiastically and showcased their talents and creativity. The celebration was made sweeter with yummy payasam being served to all students. From colourful outfits to cheerful competitions and happy faces, Kutti Onam was truly a memorable celebration for our young Chavarians and a beautiful way to introduce them to the joy, traditions and togetherness that make Onam so special.
The grand Onam celebration was held on 21st August in the school campus. When the campus was filled with the colours of Kerala, traditional attire and the spirit of togetherness, it truly reflected the essence of the festival. One of the major attractions was the grand Pookkalam lovingly created by our students and teachers which added a beautiful traditional touch. The campus was also buzzing with excitement as students and teachers took part in various competitions including Tug of War, Rotti Kadi and Lemon and Spoon Race.
The formal programme commenced at 9.15 AM with a prayer song by the school choir. Rev. Fr. Paulson Joseph CMI, Vice Principal, welcomed the gathering and Rev. Fr. Dr. Abraham Vettiyankal CMI, Manager, delivered the presidential address. The celebration was honoured by the presence of Shri. Apu John Joseph MLA, Chief Whip of Kerala, who lit the lamp and delivered the Onam message, adding special significance to the occasion. Cine Artist Ms. Miya George graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, bringing joy and charm to the celebration. The school was also delighted to welcome the newly elected PTA members who joined the festivities.
The much-awaited cultural programme was nothing short of marvellous. The stage came alive with energetic dances, melodious Onam songs and entertaining skits presented by our students. The programme also included a melodious duet, prize distribution and felicitations by the Principal and PTA members. The entire celebration beautifully reflected the true spirit of Onam – joy, unity, sharing and togetherness.
With traditional colours, cheerful faces, exciting competitions and unforgettable performances, the Onam celebration at Chavara was truly a feast for the eyes and the heart. It was a celebration that reminded everyone that Onam is not just a festival, it is a feeling that brings everyone together.
